This summer, our three colleagues Laura, Hendrikje, and Jens did not only travel abroad to relax, but also to increase our social impact across the borders, set up new collaborations, and launch new projects. This way, we want to demonstrate that our methodology can also be used for international projects.
Jens had been selected to participate in the Changemaker’s Room in Nigeria. Together with 9 other Europeans and 20 African participants, he took part in a six-day international training forum. The 30 selected, ambitious participants share the will to initiate sustainable change for young people in Europe and Africa. Together, they identified local and global problems. They used the available training tools, inspiring ‘field trips’, and speakers to take the first steps towards realising several impact-oriented, international projects. Despite several logistical challenges and political interference, we ended up with an impressive result after this intense week in Lagos. !DROPS played an active, coordinating role in a new collaboration with 5 other countries to start a large project in which we promote active citizenship for young people by means of human design thinking.
Tandem was a wonderful experience for Hendrikje, where cultural managers from Europe met with cultural managers from the Arabic world. In a breathtaking landscape in Tunesia, they got to know each other and networked with likeminded people in various contexts. There were workshops about setting up partnerships, they worked on project ideas, and they found matches with the right partners. !DROPS will stay in touch with plenty of participants with whom we have a sustainable connection.
Selection European Social Innovation Competition
We have been selected as a semi-finalist for the European Social Innovation Competition with our project idea Talent Radio on Tour. Hence, we were invited with the other semi-finalists to a bootcamp in Cluj, Romenia. There, Laura continued to develop and finetune the project. We met with other semi-finalists to find inspiration and learn from each other. The intensity was high and there were plenty of workshops, some more relevant than others. This provided Laura with the opportunity to think about lots of aspects of project design and to explore new perspectives.
“The international encounters and post-coaching from experts have taught me in the first place to leave the humble Flemish mentality behind – we can do it, we have the guts, so we are allowed to be ambitious.” – LAURA

Those beautiful summer days are gone once again…
There will be several other important missions abroad in the fall. Our general director Nathalie will join King Filip as a social innovation specialist during his three-day state visit to Portugal. During that visit, our new collaboration with ImpactHub will be officially announced! Later in the fall, we will go back to Lisbon to look at various ways of business with House of Beautiful Business from edgy perspectives and with brand new, experimental methods. We may also pay a visit to Budapest, for an international forum about ecological sustainability and young people. We will keep you posted!
